We were NOT prepared for the MacKenzie River Trail!
I was invited on a trip to the MacKenzie River Trail; this trail is often referred to as the “Red Mountain” trail. It is another one of Alberta’s more challenging trails. To call this trail narrow is an understatement; it cuts through a thick forrest in the Cardinal River basin; has several steep climbs, off-cambers and an deep washout section; it has all the makings of an epic adventure! The end of the trail is a summit of nearly 6,500 feet that has an amazing view of Redcap mountain.

Jeep Rubicon Electronic Swaybar Disconnect UPGRADE!
One of the reasons I bought the Rubicon package in 2012, when I was in the market for a Jeep, was the electrinic swaybar disconnect. But as with most vehicles, these luxury items often fail. My sway bar was acting up once again, so I decided it was time to replace the “Smart Bar” with a conventional swaybar from a non-Rubicon Wrangler.

Time for another Adventure. I am heading back to Limestone; this time with an unlikely passenger.
While I loved the views that Limestone had to offerup last year; I wasn’t to thrilled by the easy route we took. This year, I am going to take the path WAY less travelled to Limestone Mountain. The path i have chosen starts out at the base of Marble Mountain and takes the backdoor to Limestone. This is not an easy route, and I have heard it referred to as Alberta’s answer to BC’s Whipsaw Trail.

When I’m not on the trails, I like to keep my Jeep clean! I often get asked how I kee my Jeep so clean so I’m going to start sharing some of my tricks with y’all. In this video we’re going to talk tires.
The most common method of cleaning tires is to use a foam spray-on cleaner. These cleaners suck and they WILL get you made fun of and called a weenie behind your back out on the trails. The reason for this is because all the dust from the FTRs and trails will stick to the side-wall of the tire. It looks like CRAP and everyone will know you just sprayed your tires before the trail run! Hence the mockery…
…I found a cleaner, that will keep your tires looking clean off the trails, and not get you teased while you’re on the trails.

TuffStuff Alternator & NAPA Belt Tensioner Install
I’ve lost faith in my OEM Alternator. It hasn’t given me an signs that it’s on the way out, but it’s nearly 200,000 KM old and I don’t want it to fail at the worst possible time; while I’m soloing on some obscure trail for example.
While I’m swapping the Alternator out I’m also doing the belt tensioner. I’ve noticed some noisier cold starts than usual as of late and the bearing definitely feels a bit notchy. The pulley on the tensioner is often overlooked and in wet or muddy conditions it tends to take a beating!
It could just be me, but I want just a little bit of peace of mind out on the trails.

GAIA GPS & onX ARE THE DEVIL!
The modern mapping apps available for devices ranging from laptops to your smart phone have continued to improve over the years. But isn’t exactly a good thing. The last time Alberta had a comprehensive trailmap developed, the Government used that very map to target and shut-down popular trails.
