The Rubicon

July 17-25, 2027

The Rubicon Trail is a 22-mile off-road route in California’s Sierra Nevada that has become a benchmark for serious four-wheel driving. Running between Georgetown and Lake Tahoe at elevations above 7,000 feet, it’s known for large granite slabs, tight technical rock sections, and steep climbs like Cadillac Hill. Obstacles such as the Gatekeeper and Little Sluice require modified 4x4 vehicles, careful tire placement, and patience — this isn’t a trail for stock SUVs or beginners. Most groups take two to three days to complete it, camping along the way at places like Rubicon Springs. Beyond the technical challenge, the trail passes through classic High Sierra scenery — pine forest, exposed granite, and alpine creeks. Its reputation is so strong that Jeep named its Rubicon models after it, and for many off-roaders, completing the trail is a practical test of both vehicle capability and driving skill.
